Dee's Burgers

Dee's Eat Well Be Happy As a graduate of Food Science in UCC, Dee was permanently on the lookout for healthy options in supermarkets that would be quick and easy to prepare at home. When she found none, she began making veggie burgers at home. Dee first noticed the popularity of her veggie burgers at a barbeque she hosted for friends. Then she started bringing them into the office for lunch. When her colleagues began demanding she bring in extra for them, Deirdre began to think more about the veggie burger concept.

Dee decided to sell her burgers at farmers markets. At the first market in Skibbereen the burgers sold out.  The next week sales were even higher as customers came back for more.  Dee saw a gap in the market for nutritious food. Her burgers are made with only the finest organic ingredients, fresh vegetables, unrefined grains, nuts and seeds. They contain no dairy, soy or eggs or no added salt or sugar, making them ideal for children also.  Dee was convinced there was a vast market opportunity for her burgers and decided to pursue the idea further. 

A successful appearance on Dragon’s Den resulted in additional funding and support as well as a confidence booster for the business.  Though the recession is challenging for all businesses, Deirdre feels ‘people still want to eat healthy food’.  She remarks ‘There is more to value than what something costs’ and Dee’s Burgers provide the consumer with unparalleled nutritional value.
