Kay O'Connell fish stall in The English Market is an impressive sight on any day. The fish comes from around the world and ends up on the stall fresh and ready to be cooked.

The stall is very large and has been on many television ads as well as receiving plenty of awards through the years for the quality of their produce. They have been awarded the Seafood Circle award which they proudly display on the counter.

First started by Kay O'Connell in 1962 and now run by her two sons, the stall has made a name for itself not just locally but around Ireland as well, Rick Stein has said that it's a must shop when in the market. Supplying a lot of restaurants in Cork and beyond, as well as the local, it's not unusual to see prominent chefs shopping here for their produce to be cooked that evening. Most of the fish sold on the stall comes from the auctions at Union Hall or from the nearby ports of Castletownbere and Ballycotton or from as far as Killybegs.

At any given time you never know who may be standing beside you buying fish that may have been caught locally or freighted in from abroad. The counter is like an artist's canvas and early in the morning it's filled in such a way that you will notice it from afar. All the fish can either be sold on the bone or filleted, the choice is yours. The staff are professional and language is not an issue at this stall so no matter where you're from and if you're in cork then you know where to buy fresh fish. Many prominent chefs shop at Kay O'Connells.

Please Note: Almost all of the fish and seafood that we purchase is wild and inevitably differs in weight; no two fish weigh the same. When you select a fish to purchase, we specify the number of servings the fish will feed, a price per kilo and an approximate weight. Our commitment to you is, your fish will vary in weight by no more than 20%; in most cases we can match the exact weight. Once you have bought your fish, it will be delivered vacuum packed to your door by LocalMarkets.ie
