Mellas Fudge

Mella McAuley began her fudge enterprise as a schoolgirl, selling homemade fudge to the local sweet shop while in fifth year in secondary school in Bantry.  Her mother was a ‘fudge fanatic’, and weekends usually consisted of experimenting with different fudge recipes.

Finding herself at a loose end in 2004, and with a desire to work for herself, Mella realised there was a gap in the market for good quality crumbly buttery fudge, and began making the fudge in her own kitchen and selling to local shops around West Cork and at local markets.

Nearly six years on, Mella now has her own kitchen unit based in Lisavaird Co-op, just outside Clonakilty.  The fudge over the years has won a 2 star Gold Great Taste Award for the Vanilla, and a 1 star Gold for both the Rum & Raisin and the Walnut flavours.  Last year the chocolate took Silver in the Irish Food Awards in its category.  The fudge is now available all around the country, from Sligo to Schull.
The fudge is created with as much local produce as possible, including its most vital ingredient – butter from Bandon.
